Prolific Prinz targets century

Birgit Prinz will certainly enjoy a birthday to remember today when she equals Bettina Wiegmann's record of 154 Germany caps, but the striker could make it even more memorable if she were to score against England in the friendly game in Aalen and bring up a century of goals in international football.

Milestones
Not much remains to be said about the premier player in women's football. Prinz scored on her international debut against Canada in 1994, is her country's leading scorer and was voted FIFA Women's World Player of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She has starred in four UEFA European Women's Championship triumphs, lifted the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2003 and has won a host of honours with 1. FFC Frankfurt, including the UEFA Women's Cup in 2002 and 2006.

No stroll
"It's great to set records," said the 29-year-old. "I don't care too much about statistics but I will be so happy when I finally score my 100th goal. I've been thinking about it for a while, especially as people are always asking me about it, and thinking is not a good thing for a striker." Despite recording wins in all 14 matches against England, Prinz knows today's game will be no stroll against a team buoyed by a recent success which saw them pip France to a place in the 2007 World Cup in China.

'Incredibly strong'
"England are incredibly strong physically and play a real power game," said Prinz. "They will definitely demand a great deal of us." Germany coach Silvia Neid also expects a testing evening, but believes her forward could prove the difference. "Birgit is an exceptional player who rises above everyone's level and can decide matches on her own," she said.
