• Used as a football ground since 1920, Stebonheath Park has in recent years staged international matches for Wales's senior women's team and the men's Under-21 side, as well as other youth fixtures.

• Llanelli Town Council, the stadium's owners, undertook major renovations as recently as 2008, when a new open seated stand enabled Llanelli AFC to host their first European game, a UEFA Champions League qualifier against Latvian outfit FK Ventspils in July 2008. The club were dissolved in April 2013.

• The venue has a four-lane running track. Stebonheath Park is also Welsh rugby league's spiritual home, the scene of victories over England and France that helped Wales win four successive European championships at the end of the 1930s.

Llanelli
Historically a mining town, Llanelli grew on steel and became the traditional centre of Welsh tinplate production, but is famous for its production line of a different type of precious mettle: rugby union players. Between them, Llanelli and Scarlets have nurtured no fewer than 19 Wales captains.
