Italy, Finland, Russia and best third-place side Greece booked spots in the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship second qualifying round as the first stage concluded with a shock for Spain and an impressive win for Switzerland. The 20 automatic qualifiers will be joined in the Nyon draw on 20 November by Germany, France and England, who all had a bye.
Group 1 (Qualifiers: Republic of Ireland, Serbia)
Ireland and Serbia were already through after two wins but they still had plenty of energy to give as they put on an absorbing show in their final game. Jovana Damnjanović was on target with her tenth goal in the first qualifying round as the match swung one way then the other before Emma Hansberry delivered the telling blow (74) to earn Ireland a 3-2 win. Cyprus finished third in the section, Marilena Georgiou's goal soon after half-time seeing off Latvia.
Group 2 (Italy, Austria, Greece)
Italy were held by Greece on Monday, but if there were any nerves the 2008 winners did not show them as they swept aside mini-tournament hosts Austria to top the section. Playing a high-tempo pressing game, they were set on their way by first-half goals from Carlotta Moscia and Valentina Giacinti before the excellent Carolina Cannone capped a 3-0 win with a header on the hour. Greece, who beat Kazakhstan by the same scoreline, also advanced as the third-placed team with the best record against the top two.
Group 3 (Ukraine, Belgium)
Ukraine advanced as group winners after a battling goalless draw with Belgium, maiden finalists this summer. Seven members of Oleksandr Masalskyi's side were booked, and they ended the game with ten players when Alyna Shylova was sent off with a quarter of an hour to go. The result confirmed top spot for Ukraine ahead of Belgium on goal difference, with Croatia third after the hosts beat the Faroe Islands 4-1.
Group 4 (Northern Ireland, Hungary)
Simone Magill struck a 12-minute hat-trick as Northern Ireland made it three wins from three with a 4-0 victory against Lithuania, but it was the other final fixture that drew the focus as Poland and Hungary went head-to-head for second spot. A draw would have been enough for Poland and, with the sides locked at 2-2 after 89 minutes, they had one foot in the next round. Hungary denied them at the last, however, substitute Orsolya Bereczki getting the decisive touch following a corner.
Group 5 (Scotland, Norway)
Already-qualified Scotland had no answer to Guro Reiten's fifth-minute goal as Norway took top spot in Antalya. Turkey finished third, with 17-year-old defender Yaşam Göksu scoring in each half to see off Belarus.
Group 6 (Denmark, Iceland)
Denmark wasted no time in sealing top spot as Mie Jans and Camilla Andersen put them 2-0 up inside four minutes against Iceland, eventually triumphing 3-1. The main excitement in the other game came in the final stages, bursting into life when Valentína Šušolová put Slovakia 1-0 up 18 minutes from time against Moldova. Fellow substitute Nikola Rybanská was then sent off, though, and Victoria Ostapenco made it 1-1 in the closing moments.
Group 7 (Finland, Spain)
Finland pulled off a surprise as they came from behind to beat 2012 runners-up Spain. After Alexia Putellas had squandered a penalty, Ángel Vilda's charges forged ahead through Sonia Fraile (56), yet goals in the final 13 minutes from Juliette Kemppi and Emma Koivisto earned Finland victory. Bulgaria defeated Estonia 3-1 in the other final game – the first goals in the section for both sides.
Group 8 (Czech Republic, Portugal)
The Czech Republic rounded off an impressive six days with a 2-2 draw against the side Spain beat in this summer's semi-finals, Portugal, which confirmed their place atop the section. Elsewhere, Bosnia and Herzegovina's 17-year-old skipper Melisa Hasanbegović was on target in a 2-0 victory against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Group 9 (Sweden, Russia)
Russia earned a battling goalless draw with holders Sweden to book their progress. Anything less and Slovenia would have gone through at their expense after five second-half goals helped them to a 6-0 win against Azerbaijan.
Group 10 (Switzerland, Netherlands)
Switzerland could be team to avoid in the draw after putting down a marker against the Netherlands. Yannick Schwery's side were 3-0 up inside 34 minutes and although the Dutch improved after that, they could not keep their momentum going as the game ended 5-2. Romania bowed out with a 2-0 victory against Israel.
