Going into this season, three of the past four holders had failed to reach the following year's finals to defend their title, and Denmark were responsible for the Netherlands continuing that trend.
Heading into the last day of qualification against the Dutch, the Danes knew only their sixth win out of six would guarantee a finals spot. An early goal from 17-year-old Signe Bruun – scoring for the third successive game having been drafted into the side in March – duly delivered it.
Captain Stine Larsen explained: "We scored quickly, we were as good as ever defensively and struggled hard in attack. Many of the girls played well above their usual level and Naja Bahrenscheer was as strong as ever in goal."
It completed an impressive turnaround for a team that finished bottom of their elite round group in 2014.

Once a promising youth player, Randa-Boldt had to wait until embarking on his coaching career before really making an impact. He spent time with leading youth outfit Vanløse before switching to women's football and Brøndby and Skovlunde.
He combined that work with a position as assistant to Henrik Lehm, coach of the women's U19 side that progressed to the semi-finals in 2006, before taking the reins himself in June 2008. Randa-Boldt guided Denmark to the final tournament at the fourth attempt in 2012, making the semi-finals – he will hope to go one better in Wales.
