It feels great to wear this medal around my neck. It wasn't the best final for us – Spain were the better team, all credit to them – but it's the result that counts. Based on how the game went it's surprising that we won really. That's football.
Miedema had that chance – she had a few actually – and took it. The girls have been getting better and better all season. They always had technique, but their tactical awareness has really come on. What's next? The first qualifying round in Serbia [in September] … but first a beer.
Vivianne Miedema, Netherlands goalscorer
This feels amazing. We came here to win and we did it; it's an amazing feeling standing here with this [medal]. Spain were very good – the better team really – but we scored when we got a chance. Before the ball came to me I knew the goalkeeper had come off her line before changing her mind and trying to get back. It was easy to score.
The six goals are nice but it's all about the winners' medal. I'm glad I came [a senior international, she did not play in qualifying] because it was a dream to play at a European final tournament – maybe next year I come back! I hope so. Now I celebrate, tomorrow we go back home and then the day after I go to Munich [to link up with new club FC Bayern München].
Jorge Vilda, Spain coach
Sometimes you end up paying the highest price for just one mistake. I have to congratulate the Netherlands on becoming champions but I'm very proud of my team and how they performed. I thought we dominated for all but the first ten minutes of the second half. Finals are always like this. If you squander as many chances as we did it's impossible to win. But it's a young team and we will come back stronger next year.
