Scotland secured their fourth tilt at the final tournament in some style, accounting for Russia and Iceland in the elite round and registering an incredible 38 goals in six qualifiers – 13 more than any other side managed. Caroline Weir (9 goals) and Zoe Ness (8) were particularly prolific, though in all 11 players were on target for Gareth Evans's attack-minded side.

They will travel to Norway confident of recording at least a first win in the final tournament, having lost eight of their nine group stage matches to date, the exception a 3-3 draw with Italy in 2010. That side included Jennifer Beattie, two years after Kim Little and Rachel Corsie had emerged, and all are now senior internationals with over 50 caps.

Interestingly, Scotland met England in each of their previous finals appearance – losing 3-1 every time.

Coventry-born Evans is best associated with Hibernian, scoring 37 goals in 301 appearances for the club between 1988 and 1996. The forward was in the side that beat Dunfermline Athletic FC 2-0 to lift the 1991 League Cup. He retired in 2004 and became assistant manager at Alloa, moving onto a similar role at Brechin, before returning to Hibs as reserve team coach in 2007.

He had a spell as caretaker boss at the Edinburgh club, before moving to Livingston as assistant in 2011, later standing in as manager. He succeeded Arsenal LFC-bound Shelley Kerr at the Scotland women's U19 helm in June 2013, explaining: "This is the first time that I have worked in the women's game, but I get a real sense that there are exciting times ahead."
