French pair going for goals against Wales

Griedge M'Bock Bathy and Faustine Robert warned Wales that France want to win and they want to win big when the teams meet on Sunday as they look to overhaul England at the Group A summit.

Going into matchday three, England lead France only on goal difference and if Mo Marley's team beat a Denmark team with semi-final ambitions of their own then Les Bleuettes will have to overcome Wales by a minimum of two goals. Not that forward Robert is getting ahead of herself just yet.

"The first step will be a win," she said. "Only then will we look for top spot because obviously against Germany [the likely Group B winners, in the semi-finals] it could be difficult. We have the team to go far and now it is up to us to score goals against Wales in order to take England's first place. But if we are to play Germany we have the team to beat them."

The sentiment was echoed by skipper M'Bock Bathy as she assessed a young team maturing fast – as a 3-1 victory over Denmark reflected. "We were a bit frustrated against England but we were able to regroup, go forward and impose our game. We conceded quite quickly but we kept our cool, we kept on playing as we know how and two minutes later it paid off. It is a good thing that we won after Monday and the England draw."

M'Bock Bathy had to overcome a personal setback after conceding an eighth-minute penalty but she did so brilliantly as France stormed back. So too Robert, whose delivery from the right caused problems all evening, with one on 26 minutes leading to France's third goal from Claire Lavogez. "I enjoyed it when they started to find me on the right," said Robert. "I personally would have liked to take more risks but collectively we had a good game.

M'Bock Bathy also sees collective strength; and a clear goal: "Against Wales, we are going to try and score as many goals as possible. We are going to give everything to pip England to top spot and continue the competition serenely."
