Germany kicked off their 2009/10 UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship campaign in typically impressive fashion, but the most eye-catching victories on the first day of the second qualifying round came for Iceland and Scotland. UEFA.com rounds up the action.

Group 1
The section has always been about Monday's meeting between holders England and the side they beat in last year's final, Sweden. The pair warmed up for that potential decider with 3-0 wins, Olivia Schough scoring twice as mini-tournament hosts Sweden overwhelmed Turkey. Toni Duggan, a scorer in last July's Belarus showpiece, set England on their way against the Republic of Ireland.

Group 2
Semi-finalists 12 months ago, France midfielder Léa Rubio's fourth-minute opener was all that separated her side and Switzerland. Les Bleuettes now face the other Matchday 1 victors, Austria, who recovered from going behind inside two minutes against hosts Hungary to win 3-1.

Group 3
Given a bye to this stage, Germany made an immediate impression as they brushed aside Poland 7-0. Two goals before half-time from Svenja Huth ended initial resistance and from then on it was one-way traffic, substitute Nicole Rolser also on target twice. Serbia may therefore approach Monday's meeting with the five-time champions with some trepidation – they conceded three times in the last 19 minutes in a 4-0 loss to Norway.

Group 4
Anna Cholovyaga hit four herself as Russia made light work of the Czech Republic, winning 6-0 in Sochi, but the game three hours earlier at the Sputnik-Sport Stadium was anything but one-sided. Iceland twice came from behind to beat Spain in a tense battle, Thórdís Hrönn Sigfúsdóttir's second goal of the game 13 minutes from time sealing a 3-2 victory over the 2004 champions.

Group 5
Scotland provided a sterling comeback of their own in Apeldoorn against Denmark. Trailing to Pernille Harder's opener midway through the first half, goals from Rebecca Dempster (73) and Kim Borthwick (81) turned the match on its head. Shelley Kerr's charges now turn attentions to the Netherlands, 4-0 victors over Finland.

Group 6
Two veterans of Italy's 2008 triumph, Sabrina Marchese and Tatiana Bonetti, were on target as the Azzurrine defeated Ukraine in Belgium. They now face a Bosnia-Herzegovina side beaten 2-0 by the hosts in their opening fixture.
