'This could be our year'

Calle Barrling said he was starting to think Sweden could go all the way after they came from behind to draw with England and book their place in the semis.

Calle Barrling, Sweden coach
We're slow starters. It is worrying when you go behind. We knew they were technically good and move the ball quickly so we weren't particularly worried when they started so well. But after half-an-hour they started making mistakes – they always do – and we lifted the pressure, started defending a bit higher. We deserved to win, definitely. We've been in a flow since March and the [La Manga] tournament in Spain. We scored in the last minute against Scotland and came back again today so we are starting to think this could be our year. We haven't played well for 90 minutes yet but when we are good we are really good and it's during those times we win the matches. They performed very well. We saw Italy in Spain – they perform very well, fight hard, and have two good forwards I think, two good strikers. I'll probably see them again tonight if I'm not too tired.

Mo Marley, England manager
After the goal we sat back a little bit and didn't really push forward and penetrate looking for a second goal. Credit to Sweden, they never gave us time to settle on the ball, especially in the second half when they just pressed. It was difficult to keep the ball like we did in the first half. We lacked that bit of quality. It was a naïve penalty and probably showed a bit of our inexperience, a bit of our youth and we were probably a bit flat after that. It becomes that little bit more difficult. Then they go down to ten players and we get a second opportunity but I think we played with our hearts, not with our heads, something which goes back to our first game. We needed to play a bit smarter. It's happened in two games now and it's something we need to work on. Chances have to be converted at crucial times and that's something we've been guilty of over the past month. This is pretty much our Under-17 team and when you look at it like that it's a massive, massive positive.
