Happy conclusion for Finland

Beijing National University 1-2 Finland
Finland's two-game trip to Beijing ended on a high with a victory against a strong student side to make up for their 5-0 defeat by China on Monday.

Home side ahead
Jarmo Matikainen's side was due to meet the national side again but a change of schedule threw up new opponents. And the home team showed their ability when they took the lead thanks to a strong 25-metre shot from Ma Jiale that gave Finnish goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela no chance.

Tjeder equaliser
However, Finland, who will host the 2004 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship finals in July and August, kept their game together and equalised just before the break when Daniela Tjeder volleyed in Annica Sjölund's cross.

Headed winner
The introduction of Laura Hyvönen into midfield further strengthened Finland after the break, as they switched from a 4-4-2 formation to 4-5-1. The winner came 24 minutes from the end when Maija Saari curled in a corner from the left and Annica Sjölund leapt highest to head in.

Coach happy
A satisfied Matikainen said: "After two good nights' sleep we were back on form. Beijing University were skilful opponents, who controlled the ball well. Our defensive play was splendid. And to add to that, we switched counterattacked quickly. The best thing about this result was coming back after conceding a goal."

Finals campaign
Finland open their finals campaign on 28 July in Hyvinkää, but will not discover their three Group A opponents until the draw is made on 18 May.
