Article body
Grant goal
Germany have long clinched first place, but Scotland moved to within one point of the Czech Republic with the victory, although the second-placed team have three games to play rather than just one. Today Scotland dominated, but did not score until the 47th minute when Julie Fleeting set up Suzanne Grant.
Portugal play-off
It was 2-0 just before the hour when substitute Pauline Hamill headed in, and although Sonia Silva pulled one back near the end, the points were Scotland's. The defeat ensures Portugal's group campaign ends with three points, and they had already been confirmed as bottom side - meaning they face a relegation play-off later in the year to preserve their top-four group status.
Scottish target
Scotland, meanwhile, welcome the Czechs on 5 September hoping their opponents will not have beaten Ukraine exactly three months earlier. If the Czechs have slipped, Scotland could move into second with their rivals having to end their campaign against Germany. However, should the Czechs beat Ukraine, Scotland will still have to win and hope 12 points is enough to be one of the two best third-placed teams.
