Jodie Taylor ends 20-year wait in record finals win

Jodie Taylor has secured her place in history with only the third Women's EURO hat-trick – over two decades after the first two – in England's record finals win.

A two-decade wait finally came to an end in Utrecht on Wednesday.

Twenty years and 17 days after Angélique Roujas's hat-trick for France in the 1997 group stage, Jodie Taylor became only the third player to claim the match ball at a UEFA Women's EURO as England beat Scotland 6-0.

It was some start to life in the competition for the Arsenal forward – this was her first ever appearance, qualifying included! Continue in this vein and Inka Grings' 2009 best of six finals goals could be under threat.

There was also history for the team as 6-0 eclipses the previous tournament record of 5-0 shared by Norway v Denmark (1997); Germany v Russia (2001); Sweden v Finland (2013).
