Germany have been dealt yet another injury blow ahead of UEFA Women's EURO 2013, with Babett Peter ruled out of the final tournament with a stress fracture to her left foot.
Suffering persistent pain in her foot, the 1. FFC Frankfurt defender underwent an MRI scan on Monday which picked up the broken bone. "I'm unbelievably disappointed," the 25-year-old said. "I've had some minor pains for a while but I didn't think it was anything major. It was a shock to find out I have a serious injury."
Peter is the sixth Germany regular to be forced to miss next month's finals in Sweden following Verena Faisst, Viola Odebrecht, Alexandra Popp, Linda Bresonik and Kim Kulig. Peter played in all ten of Germany's qualifying games, scoring three times for Silvia Neid's side. She was also a member of the Germany squad that triumphed at UEFA Women's EURO 2009.
