Béatrice von Siebenthal has decided to step down from her role as Switzerland coach at the end of the month in order to concentrate on her youth academy work.

The Swiss national team has made significant progress since Von Siebenthal first took charge in January 2005, falling just short of qualifying for the FIFA 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany by losing in the play-offs against England and then Italy.

"Béatrice von Siebenthal wants to concentrate fully on her work as at the Huttwil academy, where every year Switzerland's best young female footballers receive an excellent footballing and academic education," read a statement from the Swiss Football Association.

Switzerland, who overwhelemed Kazakhstan 8-1 last month, lie fourth in UEFA Women's EURO 2013 Group 2 with six points from four matches. Their next opponents will be Turkey at home on 31 March. A successor for the 47-year-old Von Siebenthal has yet to be identified.
