In the suburb of Lancy, the Stade de Genève is a multi-purpose venue which is home to Swiss Super League side Servette. One of the three biggest football stadiums in Switzerland, the arena was first opened in 2003 and is also known as the Stade de la Praille, after the neighbourhood it is located in.
One of the stadiums used when Switzerland co-hosted UEFA EURO 2008 with neighbours Austria, Stade de Genève has also staged rugby and ice hockey games as well as music concerts, while in 2023 it was the venue for the UEFA Youth League final in which AZ Alkmaar won 5-0 against Hajduk Split.
Things to do in Geneva
• The Jet d'eau fountain shoots water up to 140 metres in the air above Lake Geneva and is regarded as a symbol of the city's vitality and creativity. Best enjoyed while swimming in the lake, with Mont Blanc in the background.
• Geneva has the largest historic centre in Switzerland, blessed with cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, with Saint Peter's Cathedral a key site of the Old Town. If you can face climbing 157 steps, the view from the tower is sensational.
• Discover the rich culture and history of Geneva through its key museums: the Museum of the Reformation, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, the Patek Philippe Museum and the CERN Science Gateway.
