Barcelona midfielder Patri Guijarro has been named Player of the Match for the 2023 UEFA Women's Champions League final after scoring twice to spark a 3-2 comeback victory against Wolfsburg in Eindhoven.
Guijarro was chosen by the UEFA Technical Observer panel, who said: "She changed the game by scoring two goals in quick succession. The catalyst for the Barcelona comeback. Her attacking attitude in the second half got her into the box to capitalise on crossing opportunities that Barcelona couldn't capitalise on in the first half."
Speaking to UEFA.com, Guijaaro said: "I believed that we had to turn the match around, so I came infield. We also had that bit of luck and that determination to score, and the good thing is that we have been able to level the match quickly.
"It was unbelievable, especially in such a short space of time. It was an amazing feeling because getting back to 2-2 in a final against Wolfsburg is not easy at all. It was hard and it was an amazing feeling, to be honest.
"I’ve always been a team player, it’s much more rewarding to win this [UEFA Women’s Champions League] trophy. Achieving this, with assists, with goals, with work off the pitch or wherever, I always want to add to the team, with the goal of winning trophies; obviously, with the Champions League, which was our goal, and we did it."
Guijarro is the second Barcelona player to win the otherwise Lyon-dominated award, after Aitana Bonmati in the Spanish side's 4-0 defeat of Chelsea in 2021.
