UEFA women's football development ambassador Lotta Schelin has spoken of the importance of competitions driving the constant evolution of European women's football.

Speaking to UEFA.com's Matchday Live audio show, the Swedish international – a winner of the competition with Olympique Lyonnais in Germany three years ago – has told of the importance of using the UEFA Women's Champions League final on Thursday to inspire future generations of female footballer and of her aims in her ambassadorial role.

Schelin on the accessibility of football for girls:
"It's a really good project because it's an amazing chance for us to go out and to develop women's football in different parts of Europe. There are a lot of countries where young girls don't know that they can take part in football and we can give them something to dream about – that's something important that UEFA stands for and I'm happy to be part of."

Schelin on her aims as a development ambassador:
"I want to see a lot of development. If we go to the basics, I want to go to places where women's football isn't as developed and give them players to look up to when players have dreams. At the same time, we need to push for the best teams and the best clubs to play and to develop."
