To announce 100 days to go and launch the tickets, 100 members of Cor Glanaethwy, the North Wales choir who came third in Britain's Got Talent, performed a flash mob on unsuspecting visitors to Cardiff's Central Library today.
Two young girl soloists started to sing 'The Prayer' and were gradually joined by other members of the choir, scattered between the various areas and levels of the library, until they formed a crescendo of voices around the balconies of the contemporary building. Cardiff Library's iconic open-plan design provided amazing acoustics.
Jayne Ludlow, Wales women's manager and the ambassador for the final, said: "I was lucky enough to be in Cardiff Central Library today to watch Cor Glanaethwy and see the surprised and delighted reactions of the general public as this beautiful rendition of 'The Prayer' slowly grew in volume and spread throughout the different open levels of the library. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!
"Having played in the competition with Arsenal and having had the honour of lifting the trophy in 2007, it will be great to welcome the world's best female footballers to Wales."
Jonathan Ford, chief executive of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), said: "Staging major football finals is one of the objectives contained within the FAW’s strategic plan – we believe hosting both the 2017 UEFA Champions League final and 2017 UEFA Women's Champions League final will have a positive and long-lasting effect on Welsh football.
"The aims of the FAW are to create an event that will engage all Welsh people – regardless of whether they like football – to instil a sense of national pride and inspire children with the core values of sportsmanship, dedication, fair play and respect."
The UEFA Women's Champions League final will take place the evening of the first day of the UEFA Champions Festival at Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff Bay. Over 200,000 people are expected to visit the festival in Cardiff during the week.
The UEFA Champions Festival will be a focal point for both supporters and general public, with a busy programme of music, football and big-screen entertainment generating a real buzz for those wishing to feel part of this year's biggest single sporting event.
The festival atmosphere will continue at the UEFA Women's Champions League final with a celebratory opening ceremony before kick-off.
