• The daughter of a professional footballer and coach, Jayne Ludlow was a fine track and field athlete in her youth in the long jump and triple jump, where she held the British Under-17 record, also representing Wales at basketball and netball.
• Football was her "first love", however, and the midfielder first played for local club Barry Town before moving to study at the University of Pennsylvania, only to cut short her stay.
• After spells with Millwall and Southampton while studying physiotherapy in London, Ludlow signed for Arsenal aged 21 in 2000 and would remain there 13 years.
• Ludlow scored 28 goals in her first Gunners season as they won the English treble, and during her Arsenal career they dominated the domestic scene as well as emerging triumphant in the 2006/07 UEFA Women's Cup.
• Wales captain Ludlow retired from playing in July 2013 having netted more than 200 Arsenal goals. She was appointed Reading's manager shortly after.
• In October 2014 Ludlow became Wales coach.
