VfL Wolfsburg have signed Japanese forward Yuki Ogimi, the former 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam player returning to the Bundesliga after an 18-month spell at Chelsea LFC.
The 27-year-old FIFA Women's World Cup winner has signed a contract until June 2017, with Wolfsburg coach Ralf Kellermann explaining: "This is in anticipation of the new season. With the World Cup in mind, Yuki wanted to move in the winter. We wouldn't have been able to get her in the summer. We have managed to acquire a real goal threat and an international attacker, who is also eligible to play in the Champions League."
The Bundesliga's top scorer in 2013 has won a total of 11 titles with her clubs NTV Beleza and Turbine Potsdam, not to mention the 2011 World Cup and a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics.
"I'm looking forward to returning to the Bundesliga – it is one of the best leagues in the world," said Ogimi. "Wolfsburg are top of the table and they are still involved in the cup and the Champions League. It will be an exciting second half of the season and I await it with huge anticipation."
Wolfsburg, who have won the last two UEFA Women's Champions League titles, will face Swedish side FC Rosengård in this season's last eight. Chelsea themselves make their European debut next season after finishing second in the 2014 FA Women's Super League.
