Rosengård complete Swedish title defence

FC Rosengård have retained the Damallsvenskan title they won under their former name of FCR Malmö last year after a 3-2 victory at second-placed Göteborg FC tonight.

Defeats earlier this week for KIF Örebro DFF and fellow European entrants Linköpings FC ensured Rosengård a UEFA Women's Champions League place for 2015/16 but also meant they needed just a point in Gothenburg to clinch the club's eighth Damallsvenskan championship with two games to spare.

They trailed 2-1 at half-time, but Marta's goal on 76 minutes drew them level and set the stage for Anja Mittag to complete the turnaround with an 80th-minute finish.

"It's the best thing that can happen if you play for a team," said Mittag, with 17-year-old Nathalie Persson – who came on as a substitute for Therese Sjögran and within six minutes set up the decisive goals – adding: "I barely thought I'd get to play, and then this happens!"

Sjögran herself said: "We knew Göteborg are a strong home team, but we made a super substitution. It's great for Nathalie – it shows the confidence in the squad." Coach Markus Tilly noted: "We've had a change of coach and players have come and gone, but in the end we stand here as champions. It feels fantastic to win it this way, by turning an emotional match like this one around."

In the race for Sweden's second European slot next season, Göteborg are level on points with both Linköping and, with a game in hand, Örebro.

Rosengård begin their UEFA Women's Champions League bid with a round of 32 first-leg trip to Russia's Ryazan-VDV on 8 October.
