Neulengbach stalemate suits Tyresö

SV Neulengbach failed to crown their 50th UEFA competition game with a victory as a 0-0 draw confirmed Swedish champions Tyresö FF's place in the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals.

Trailing 8-1 from last Sunday's quarter-final first leg, the hosts put in an admidable effort but could not convert their chances, with Natascha Celouch and Jana Vojteková both denied by Tyresö goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela. They went out with pride none the less, as the first Austrian side to get this far, while Birmingham City LFC or Arsenal LFC await debutants Tyresö in the semis, which take place the last two weekends in April.

Tony Gustavsson's Tyresö left Brazil star Marta on the bench and had to fend off some pressure, but rarely looked to be in too much trouble. The closest Neulengbach came to a first-half breakthrough was when Stefanie Kremener fired over following a cross from Dominika Škorvánková, one of four Slovak players in the Austrian title holders' squad.

The Swedish team did not show quite the same menace they displayed in their home leg, but Neulengbach goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger made an excellent save to push Malin Diaz's 16-metre effort over.

Johannes Uhlig's charges picked up the pace again midway through the second period, but Korpela fielded Celouch header's and Vojteková's low shot nine minutes from time. Zinsberger also made a fine stop from Meghan Klingenberg after Madelaine Edlund's header had left her with a sight of goal.
