SV Neulengbach regained some dignity with a 0-0 draw against Tyresö FF in the second leg of their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final, having lost the away leg 8-1 last week. The Austrian challengers expressed their satisfaction, while Tyresö looked forward to taking on Arsenal LFC or Birmingham City LFC in the semi-final.
Johannes Uhlig, Neulengbach coach
The first game was terrible, but 0-0 is a very good result for us. Our attack was not so good, but I am very happy with our defence. We had problems in the first five minutes of the first game with our opponents' pace. Here we had home advantage and Tyresö didn't give it 100%.
I have to be satisfied with the whole season. Tyresö were a class above us – very quick, like Potsdam or Wolfsburg. In Austria, teams don't have pace and skill like this.
Lucie Haršányová, Neulengbach defender
We are happy with the point. We did not expect such a heavy away defeat at this level. Unlike today, we played an open game which cost us. Tyresö have unbelievably quick players – they train eight times a week, we do half that. We didn't have a chance. Reaching a quarter-final is a good result, not just for our team but for the whole of Austrian football.
Tony Gustavsson, Tyresö coach
I am very satisfied to be in the semi-finals and also impressed by the way Neulengbach played today. A couple things were important for us: to play solidly in defence, and to play away, because we need to practise that before the game against Arsenal or Birmingham.
Who would I prefer to play in the semis? It is difficult to say, because both sides are really good. Birmingham are a more physical team, Arsenal more skilful with more pace. We have to play better than we did against Neulengbach today, then we can match either of them.
Christen Press, Tyresö forward
They came out really hard and had a good game. They made it very hard for us and were very good in defence.
We are really excited to be in the semi-finals. We dream about games like this – it has been a long time since the first round. We put all our energy and all our hope into this. We know it will be a very tough semi for us and we need to play our best football to get to the final. If this team play at their absolute best, we have a really good chance to go further.
