Neulengbach braced for Tyresö rematch

Saturday's UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final second-leg visit of Tyresö FF may be a competition swansong rather than a gateway to the last four for SV Neulengbach, but the first Austrian side to get this far still want to put on a show for a sell-out Wienerwaldstadion crowd.

Sweden's Tyresö belied a troubled winter off the pitch when they cruised to an 8-1 first-leg win on Sunday including hat-tricks from both American striker Christen Press, now the seven-goal top scorer of the knockout phase, and Brazil's Marta – whose high-profile presence is part of the reason the return has proved such a hot ticket.

If Neulengbach coach Johannes Uhlig himself had hoped for "a draw, something like a 0-0 perhaps", such aspirations were dashed, and striker Nina Burger – still one goal from being the first to 40 for a single club in UEFA women's competition – said: "They are much stronger than us, but we must make sure we concede fewer goals."

As for Tyresö, set for a semi-final against English opponents in the shape of Arsenal LFC or Birmingham City LFC, they were surprised how easy it turned out to be last week. Captain Caroline Seger said: "If I knew my team was to face Christen Press and Marta I would have chosen a different tactical lineup. I would have gone for a deeper line of defence."

Coach Tony Gustavsson also highlighted the contribution of Press and Marta: "It's no coincidence the two of them scored three goals each, they have enormous qualities."

However, Gustavsson does not expect another rout this weekend. "We'll play on a different surface in the next leg – grass – which caused us problems when we played away to Fortuna Hjørring. We need to put in a good performance, not primarily to get through this tie, but to keep building the team. We haven't had much time together and every minute we get is valuable in our aim to play the perfect football we're striving for. We won't reach perfection but will keep striving."
