Seger warns Tyresö of Fortuna threat

Tyresö FF may have put themselves in the driving seat to reach the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finals, but Caroline Seger knows visitors Fortuna Hjørring "will not just come and surrender" when the Swedish side defend a 2-1 round of 16 lead in Stockholm on Thursday.

Having recorded a 2-1 aggregate win against Paris Saint-Germain on their European debut, Tyresö prevailed by the same scoreline in Hjorring on Saturday, prolific American striker Christen Press with both their goals before Nadia Nadim pulled one back late on. Sweden midfielder Seger was instrumental in the victory but the Tyresö captain knows the 2003 runners-up will not be giving up.

Seger told UEFA.com: "Unfortunately we conceded a goal yet it is a good result. The return match is going to be a tough game but we have the home crowd. We have to work as a team for 90 minutes because I know they will not just come and surrender."

Heavy rain led to soggy conditions in Denmark for the first leg, yet the Tyresövallen in Tyreso has an artificial surface. "It is not easy to play nice football when it is raining like Saturday and we are able to play really nice football," Seger, 28, said. "Football is always easier to play on artificial turf."

Fortuna have been in impressive form this season – Brian Sørensen's team are unbeaten in the Danish Women's Premier League with 11 wins and one draw from 12 fixtures. Though they have lost in the round of 16 in all four seasons since the competition's current format was introduced, they are not giving up hope of ending that run. Forward Camilla Kurr Larsen said: "I am really excited for the return leg. We just have to do our best and go for it 200%."

Nor is she worried about the artificial surface. "They are used to playing on that, we are used to grass," Larsen said. "We only train on artificial pitches in the winter and have done so maybe one or two times so far. The ball is going to run faster."

However, against opponents boasting the likes of Press, Seger, Marta and Verónica Boquete, Larsen knows the task is tough. "They are a world-class team with very good individuals," she said. "We just have to do our best and try to get the victory."
