Round of 32 set for tight conclusion

The round of 32 concludes on Wednesday and Thursday with a higher than usual number of ties still up for grabs and some fascinating last-16 meetings to be set.

The UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32 second legs have in the past been dominated by seeds bringing back leads for their home returns – that is far from the case on Wednesday and Thursday.

While holders VfL Wolfsburg and former winners Olympique Lyonnais, 1. FFC Potsdam and Arsenal LFC did all secure comfortable away victories last week, four seeded teams were beaten. Furthermore, three games were drawn and Birmingham City LFC are the only other club going into a home match more than two goals ahead.

Among the ties too close to call is the much-anticipated meeting of Paris Saint-Germain FC and Swedish debutants Tyresö FF, where the French outfit must overturn a 2-1 deficit at home to a side who at the weekend ensured a second European campaign next season, but conceded the Damallsvenskan title to FC Malmö.

Another team travelling with an advantage are the first Turkish representatives to reach this stage, Konak Belediyesi, who are 2-1 up against RTP Unia Racibórz of Poland. UPC Tavagnacco go to former runners-up Fortuna Hjørring 3-2 to the good having recovered from two down in Italy.

Among the level ties, Glasgow City LFC welcome R. Standard de Liège following a 2-2 draw with the Belgian side. The prize is a likely showdown with Arsenal, who have a strong Scottish contingent including manager Shelley Kerr. Other fascinating round of 16 encounters seemingly on the cards include Wolfsburg versus Malmö and a meeting of the teams that contested the 2010 and 2011 finals, Lyon and Potsdam.
