Brøndby No1 glad to cool Barcelona boots

"That might have been the best game I have played," said Brøndby IF's Jenny Olsson after holding off FC Barcelona, whose coach Xavi Llorens rued their missed chances.

Everyone agreed that Brøndby IF's Jenny Olsson played a blinder to keep FC Barcelona at bay in the teams' scoreless UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32 opener – not least the goalkeeper herself – but home coach Xavi Llorens hoped his side's missed chances do not come back to haunt them in the return fixture.

Jenny Olsson, Brøndby goalkeeper
That might have been the best game I have played. It felt good and I made a lot of saves, in the second half especially. In the first half I think we had control of them but they had three or four really good chances in the second. We had two or three chances ourselves and we might have got the ball more if we had scored, but it was a great game.

I hope we will be more attacking in the game next week, but I think Barcelona are going to have a couple of chances. The coach wants us to get through to the quarter-finals. I think we can.

Peer Lisdorff, Brøndby coach
We have a lot to thank Jenny for. It is important to have a good goalkeeper that can earn points for the team and she got a point for us today. I could see from the start that she is a good goalkeeper with good technique. She has been playing since she was 14 and is very good with her feet. She saved a lot of shots and that is good.

We thought about pressing them high at the beginning of the second half, but it didn't go well and that is why we sat back a little and tried to hit on the counterattack. The result is OK. We will plan for the home fixture and I think we can beat them there.

Sonia Bermúdez, Barcelona striker
I think the whole team was fantastic. We read the match well at all times and we went for it, especially in the second half. To tell the truth, their goalkeeper was incredible. I hope she doesn't have such a good match in the return game.

I feel fine. The important thing was not to lose and not concede any goals, but we do leave with the feeling that we could have scored. We had two particularly good chances. Anyway, not conceding goals is important too.

Xavi Llorens, Barcelona coach
Our first Champions League draw leaves a bittersweet taste. It is not bad because we have not conceded, but it is not that good because we didn't score. We had six to eight good chances and we're a team that is attack-minded and creates. But if I had to give the team a mark, it would be a high one for the work the girls put in and the impression they made. I will probably spend the night thinking about those missed chances.

I hope their goalkeeper is not as good over there and that our goalkeeper Laura Rafols does not catch the eye too much either because that would mean we need to work on our defending.
