Glasgow City LFC have been boosted in their bid to reach a first UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final by the loan signing of Wales captain Jessica Fishlock.

The 26-year-old midfielder joins Glasgow until the end of 2013 from her American club Seattle Reign FC, where she moved after being voted 2012 FA Women's Super League Players' Player of the Year at Bristol Academy WFC. Fishlock will be part of Glasgow's bid for a seventh straight Scottish title, in which they have already won all 13 of their fixtures. On 5 September they are seeded in the draw for the UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32, which they will play in October hoping to progress to the last 16 for the second time the following month.

Fishlock, who has played in Europe for Bristol, AZ Alkmaar and Cardiff City LFC, and spent last winter in Australia at Melbourne Victory, said: "I look forward to joining Glasgow City for the remainder of the season. I believe it's a perfect fit for both myself and the club. I have followed the club closely over the last few years and respect it immensely. I want to do all I can to help the club with their domestic season and their Champions League campaign."

Coach Eddie Wolecki Black added: "I believe the signing of Jess is significant, not only for the club but also the country. As a club we have not been in a privileged position of being a worldwide brand, we have had to earn the right to be regarded as an ambitious and upcoming club. Whilst we continue to set new records at home, our aim is to make progress on the European stage and the signing of Jess highlights this."
