UEFA Women's Champions League contenders Arsenal LFC and Tyresö FF have both made signings with the new European season looming.

Arsenal, who lost Scottish international Jennifer Beattie to Montpellier Hérault SC last week, have replaced her with two of manager Shelley Kerr's other countrywomen, Emma Mitchell and Caroline Weir. Meanwhile, Swedish champions Tyresö, limbering up for their European debut, have added American goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.

Mitchell, capped 22 times at the age of 20, can play in defence and midfield like Beattie and arrives from German side SGS Essen having previously played for Glasgow City LFC. Playmaker Weir, 18, made her senior debut last month in a 3-2 defeat of Iceland and comes over from Hibernian LFC, from where Arsenal previously signed striker Kim Little.

Former Scotland Under-19 coach Kerr, whose side lie fifth during the summer break in defence of their English title, said: "In Emma and Caroline, Arsenal have secured two players of outstanding quality. I worked with them both while I was with the Scottish FA and know just how talented they are."
