Olympique Lyonnais have signed Montpellier Hérault SC midfielder Melissa Plaza in their bid to regain the UEFA Women's Champions League crown they lost on 23 May to VfL Wolfsburg.

Plaza, 24, has penned a two-year contract with Lyon, who have won seven French championships in succession along with the 2010/11 and 2011/12 European titles. Capped twice by France, Plaza joined Montpellier from ESOF La Roche-sur-Yon in 2009, helping her new club to the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals in her first season.

Meanwhile, Sonia Bompastor, who ended her playing career this month, has been appointed to the Lyon coaching staff as a scout with special responsibility for analysing opposition, especially in Europe. Lyon start their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign in the round of 32 in October, aiming to reach a fifth straight final.
