Lair's Lyon must remain grounded

Olympique Lyonnais coach Patrice Lair believes the holders must keep their feet on the ground despite a 3-0 UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final victory against FCF Juvisy Essonne. Two Lotta Schelin goals either side of a powerful Wendie Renard header put Lyon in a strong position and maintained their recent domination of their domestic rivals. They have now scored 12 goals without conceding in the sides' last four meetings, and forward Élodie Thomis admitted it was not the toughest semi-final she and her colleagues have played.

Juvisy midfielder Gaëtane Thiney was left to ponder what might have been, meanwhile, after her side failed to make the most of a promising start, and coach Sandrine Mathivet admitted that her charges will have to score early in the 21 April return to keep the tie alive.

It is a positive result for us, but we must guard against complacency. We must score the first goal in the second leg. We missed many chances in the second half but we were comfortable. Juvisy can still score many more. We know they remain a threat.

Juvisy are a team with a lot of ambition who came here to get a result. It was a semi-final which both sides wanted to win so we have to be content with this result. It was not the most difficult game we have had in the semi-finals – that would be Arsenal [in 2010/11] – but still, it was tough.

It was a great victory, but it wasn't like a usual match for us. It is always special and distinctive to come up against Juvisy and we have a strong advantage, which is a good start. The third goal from Lotta [Schelin] was important, but we still have one more match to play before we can think about the final.

The feeling is frustration because we had a very good and strong start. We missed chances and we wanted an away goal. Even at 2-0, it was OK, but at 3-0 I am not sure. They had many chances that they did not take in the second half. We had some difficulties, but the goalkeeper [Marion Mancion] had a strong match.

For Lyon's first goal, I had the chance to shoot and didn't. They broke very quickly and scored, but this is the Champions League. It was great to play in front of 22,000 people, the atmosphere was excellent and now we wait for the return match in Juvisy.

We came to score a goal but we saw the power and quality of Lyon and it was a fair result. Against a team other than Lyon, it would be easier to say it is possible to mount a comeback, but we would have to score early in the return to keep the tie alive.
