Juvisy hope to avoid Lyon

FCF Juvisy Essonne are keen to avoid fellow French club Olympique Lyonnais in next week's UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final draw, although forward Camille Catala insists they would be capable of "unsettling" the title holders given the chance.

OL have triumphed in Europe's elite club competition for the last two years and currently boast a healthy lead at the top of the French domestic standings, having notably beaten Juvisy, one of their principal title rivals, 4-0 away from home last month. It is therefore easy to understand why Sandrine Mathivet's players would rather be paired against a foreign opponent come March at the Nyon draw, streamed live on UEFA.com from 13.30CET on Tuesday.

"Lyon are leading the way in Europe and they're looking to defend their title again this year," French international Catala told UEFA.com. "They play brilliant football, so it wouldn't be the easiest draw. But I believe we're capable of competing with them in a one-off tie. We know we can unsettle them and maybe do even more than that."

As for Juvisy captain Sandrine Soubeyrand, she made it perfectly clear she would rather not find out. "I hope we don't get Lyon because we already have to play them twice in the league," she explained.

Juvisy are making only their second last-eight appearance, yet confidence is high after battling victories against FC Zürich Frauen and Stabæk FK in the previous rounds. "As a competitor, I always want to go as far as possible," said Catala, 21.

"I think we can go all the way. The quarter-finals are still a long way off, though. For now, we have to focus on taking as many points as possible in the league because we still believe we can catch Lyon."

Soubeyrand, who scored the winning goal in Juvisy's 2-1 aggregate round of 16 defeat of Stabæk, is also setting her sights on the Stamford Bridge showpiece next May. "Our objective was to reach the quarter-finals," the 39-year-old defender said. "Now we have achieved that, we want to go as far as possible – and that means getting to the final. It'll be difficult, but we've already got past two strong teams."
