Glasgow City LFC will use memories of last season's UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32 to inspire them as they bid to turn round a 2-1 first leg deficit against Danish side Fortuna Hjørring on Wednesday
The Scottish champions found themselves in a similar position last season having drawn 1-1 at home to Valur Reykjavík before securing their passage to the last 16 with an impressive 3-0 victory in Iceland. Having played in both games last season, midfielder Joanne Love sees no reason why Glasgow City cannot pull off a repeat performance this time round against the 2003 runners-up.
"Of course it's doable," Love told UEFA.com. "We have to believe that we can do it. We've shown in the past that we can go away from home and get victories like we did last season against Valur. That was a really impressive performance after a draw here in Glasgow. That's what we plan to do in Denmark, and hopefully we can come back looking forward to a place in the last 16 of the Champions League."
Jane Ross's second-half strike at Petershill Park gave Glasgow City hope going into the return leg, and along with manager Eddie Wolecki Black, the Scotland striker is confident her team-mates can get the goals they require in Denmark.
"We're always capable of creating chances and as a team we always score goals as well," Ross said. "The aim is to go over there, score at least twice and try not to concede any.
"There's a lot of positives we can take from the way we played in the second half against Fortuna. We created a lot of chances, enjoyed a lot of possession and on another night we might have scored a few more goals. It's a tie of two legs, so as far as we're concerned it's still all there to play for."
Wolecki Black added: "There's one thing about Glasgow City: we always score goals. The big question we're always asked is whether we'll be good enough to score enough goals over there without conceding to get us through. They're capable of it – I have no doubt about that. Whether they do it or not is a different matter."
