Lotta Schelin's first-half double ensured Olympique Lyonnais lifted their fourth French Cup after a 2-1 victory against Montpellier Hérault SC.

Appearing in their first final since 2008, Lyon made the perfect start when Schelin met Camille Abily's delivery to score her 100th goal for the club after 90 seconds. The Sweden forward then demonstrated all her predatory instincts to leave Montpellier with an uphill task which could have become even more arduous had Schelin maintained her ruthless streak.

Sarah M'barek's side emerged after the interval with renewed purpose, but failed to make their pressure count until the 77th minute. Marine Pervier eventually reduced the deficit with a firm header, following Hoda Lattaf's centre, but it was not enough to prevent Montpellier's third consecutive cup final defeat.

"I really wanted to win the Coupe de France with Lyon," said coach Patrice Lair. "I am proud of my players. The most important thing was to win and our early goals were vital. At half time, I asked my players to stay focused and after they reduced the deficit, my players kept their composure to clinch victory."

In the league, unbeaten Lyon are three points behind FCF Juvisy Essonne with a game in hand, with the top two set to meet in the final game in the first weekend of June.
