Arsenal LFC have re-signed England duo Kelly Smith and Alex Scott ahead of their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final against Göteborg FC beginning on Wednesday with the home leg.

Forward Smith and right-back Scott helped Arsenal win the UEFA Women's Cup in 2007 but 18 months later left for Boston Breakers in the new American WPS league. However, with the suspension of that competition for 2012 both have opted to return to Arsenal, with who they have spent the winter training.

Smith said: "I had a great time in America and it was a good learning experience. Arsenal have changed a bit and made some new additions but they remain a major force in women's football."

Scott added: "There was interest from a couple of clubs in Germany and Sweden. Arsenal were on the phone quickly though, and every time that I came back home I normally trained with the club anyway. It was a bit of a no-brainer for me to come back."

Domestic treble-winners in 2012, Arsenal's domestic season begins on Sunday with an FA Women's Cup last-16 trip to Lincoln LFC with the FA WSL kicking-off in April.
