United States-born defender Alex Singer has joined German UEFA Women's Champions League contenders 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, who have once more lost the services of goalkeeper Anna Felicitas Sarholz, to a fractured bone in her wrist.

Singer, 24, has signed a two-year contract with Potsdam after leaving Swedish side Dalsjöfors GoIF, with her new coach Bernd Schröder explaining: "We want to have an option in case one of our regular defenders gets injured again, as happened with Babett Peter and Bianca Schmidt."

Sarholz, meanwhile, is likely to be out of action for several months once again after cracking a bone in her wrist. The 19-year-old only returned to training at the start of this year after breaking a bone in her left hand in a cycling accident. She had previously fractured her foot in the 2011 UEFA Women's Champions League final defeat against Olympique Lyonnais.

Winners of the inaugural UEFA Women's Champions League in 2010, Potsdam meet WFC Rossiyanka in the quarter-finals this season, and currently top the German table.
