United States midfielder Ali Krieger is set to miss the rest of 1. FFC Frankfurt's UEFA Women's Champions League campaign after suffering a serious knee injury.

The 27-year-old was taken off on a stretcher late in the first half during the US's 14-0 Olympic qualifying defeat of the Dominican Republic on Friday and tests revealed tears in the anterior and medial cruciate ligaments in her right knee. She is expected to be out for six to eight months, meaning Krieger can play no part in the remainder of Frankfurt's European or domestic campaigns.

Frankfurt, who meet FC Malmö in the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finals in March, did have a boost over the weekend when they won the DFB Indoor Cup for the seventh time, beating FCR 2001 Duisburg 4-0 in the final in Magdeburg. Germany's other European contenders, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, lost on penalties to SC 07 Bad Neuenahr in the last eight.

Potsdam are four points clear of Duisburg and five in front of Frankfurt in the Frauen-Bundesliga, which resumes in mid-February.
