Second season nears

London will stage the second UEFA Women's Champions League final on 26 May 2011 but the first act of the new season comes 11 months earlier when the qualifying round draw is made on 23 June.

The complete 2010/11 lineup will be confirmed prior to the draw but as last season the entrants consist of the champions of every competing association plus the runners-up from the eight highest-ranked nations: Germany, Sweden, France, Russia, England, Denmark, Italy and Iceland. Those eight teams, which include 2008/09 UEFA Women's Cup winners FCR 2001 Duisburg, will start in the qualifying round along with the champions of the lowest-ranked nations, the exact number depending on the final entry.

Those teams will be drawn into groups of four in the qualifying round, played from 5 to 10 August as one-venue mini-tournaments. The successful clubs progress to join the highest-ranked champions – including holders 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam – in the round of 32, drawn on 19 August. The rest of the competition is a two-legged knockout affair until the one-off final, held at a London venue to be confirmed two days before the men's UEFA Champions League final at Wembley.
