National rivals to meet in semi-finals

Holders FCR 2001 Duisburg will play German rivals 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and Olympique Lyonnais take on Umeå IK in April's UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals.

The UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final lineup was confirmed with the completion of the last eight on Wednesday.

Reigning European champions FCR 2001 Duisburg booked their place on Sunday with victory against Arsenal LFC and they will take on 2004/05 UEFA Women's Cup winners 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, who secured a second 5-0 defeat of Røa IL on Wednesday. The pair will meet in the Frauen-Bundesliga and German Cup semi-finals before their European encounter over two legs on 11 and 18 April with Duisburg at home in the first leg.

Also meeting on 10 and 18 April will be French champions Olympique Lyonnais and Swden's Umeå IK. Lyon lost 1-0 at ASD Torres Calcio but still won their quarter-final 3-1 on aggregate while two-time European champions Umeå IK scored twice in the last five minutes to draw 2-2 at Montpellier Hérault SC and go through on way goals. Lyon, staging the first leg at Stade de Gerland, are in their third straight semi-final but have never got further, while Umeå have won five out of six last-four ties.

Getafe CF's Coliseum Alfonso Pérez will be the venue for the final at 20.30CET on Thursday 20 May, two days before the men's UEFA Champions League final with the one-off showpiece an innovation for the new women's competition. That means Lyon remain in contention to complete a unique double in the space of 48 hours in Madrid come May.
