Frankfurt's Rottenberg keeps on

Silke Rottenberg has committed herself to 1. FFC Frankfurt's 2008/09 UEFA Women's Cup defence, when they will be joined by her old club FCR 2001 Duisburg.

European victory
Rottenberg ended her international career on Thursday after 126 caps with a 4-0 defeat of Wales. It ended a hectic week for the 36-year-old, who last Saturday lifted the UEFA Women's Cup for the first time in her career, though injury meant she only played the opening 45 minutes of the 3-2 defeat of Umeå IK in front of a competition record 27,640 fans.

Dietrich tribute
She will now hope to repeat that after confirming that she will play for Frankfurt next season, having joined in 2006 from Duisburg in a career that has taken in spells at 1. FC Enzen-Dürscheven, VfL Euskirchen, GW Brauweiler, TSV Siegen and SF Siegen. Frankfurt general manager Siegfried Dietrich said: "In Silke Rottenberg we lose one of the great examples of German and international women's football. We are glad that we will have her at 1. FFC Frankfurt for another year."

Duisburg bow
Having taken the third Frauen Bundesliga title of her career in her first season at Frankfurt, Rottenberg will hope to guide them to another as they trail Duisburg – who they visit on 8 June in the penultimate weekend of the season by two points – by two points with four matches to play to their rivals' three. Duisburg went top last Sunday with a 2-1 win at 2005 UEFA Women's Cup victors 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, a result which guaranteed them a top-two finish and a European debut next season thanks to Frankfurt's status as holders. That pair will be up against former champions Umeå and Arsenal LFC as well as last season's beaten semi-finalists ASD CF Bardolino Verona and Olympique Lyonnais, all of who have clinched their respective domestic titles.
