Omilade opts for Wolfsburg

After a weekend in which 1. FFC Frankfurt consolidated their Bundesliga lead, Navina Omilade became the latest player to depart 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam.

After a weekend in which 1. FFC Frankfurt consolidated their Frauen Bundesliga lead, their fellow UEFA Women's Cup quarter-finalists 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam have lost another high-profile player with Navina Omilade's move to VfL Wolfsburg.

Omilade move
Wolfsburg, who lost 5-1 to Frankfurt on Sunday, are just above the relegation zone having been promoted last season. But in 2007/08 they will have the 25-year-old midfielder Omilade, who needs to play just twice in the forthcoming Algarve Cup in Portugal to reach 50 caps for Germany and will be leaving Potsdam after four seasons in which they won the UEFA Women's Cup once, the Bundesliga twice and German Cup three times. Wolfsburg coach Bernd Huneke, whose team have also secured Britta Carlson from Potsdam, said: "With Navina Omilade another player with ambition is joining Wolfsburg. She will give us a boost in becoming a big name in German football."

Potsdam held
Also leaving Potsdam in the summer are Conny Pohlers for Frankfurt and Ariane Hingst, joining Djurgården/Älvsjö of Sweden. They also look like losing their German league crown, conceding a last-minute equaliser to draw 3-3 with SG Essen-Schönebeck on Sunday, leaving them sixth, 14 points behind Frankfurt.

Wimbersky hat-trick
Unbeaten Frankfurt were level at 1-1 against Wolfsburg in their match with 21 minutes to go, but then former Potsdam player Petra Wimbersky put the home team ahead and Birgit Prinz struck her second goal of the game. Wimbersky completed a hat-trick late on to take her season's league tally to 13 goals, one behind Prinz. FCR 2001 Duisburg remain within a point behind Frankurt following a 3-1 win at SC 07 Bad Neuenahr, recovering from conceding a second-minute goal to lead 2-1 on seven minutes with two Inka Grings efforts. Simone Laudehr's 16th-minute strike ultimately confirmed the victory. Essen-Schönebeck are third, nine points behind Duisburg.
