Potsdam power towards title

1. FFC Turbine Potsdam overcame 1. FFC Frankfurt 2-0 to close in on the Bundesliga championship in a dress rehearsal of Saturday's UEFA Women's Cup final.

Conny Pohlers and Petra Wimbersky were on target as 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam took a giant stride towards the Bundesliga title with a 2-0 victory against rivals 1. FFC Frankfurt in a dress rehearsal of this weekend's UEFA Women's Cup final.

Timely fillip
By then Potsdam may already have been crowned champions as having built up a four-point lead at the summit, they will secure the championship with victory in Wednesday's match at Hamburger SV – their penultimate league game of the season. Victory also provided a timely fillip ahead of Saturday's first-leg against Frankfurt, whose disappointment was heightened as FCR Duisburg leapfrogged them into second in the league standings following a 7-1 victory against SC Freiburg.

Duisburg second
The scoreline was all the more remarkable as Ines Österle had ensured Freiburg went into half-time all-square as she cancelled out Patricia Hanebeck's early opener. But the home side ran away with the second period with Inka Grings scoring twice. Goals from Simone Laudehr, Shelly Thompson, Fatmire Bajramaj, and a second for Hanebeck, rounded off a comprehensive victory.

Sindelfingen joy
Elsewhere, VfL Sindelfingen won 6-1 against bottom club FSV Frankfurt, while FFC Brauweiler-Pulheim lost 2-0 on home soil against SC 07 Bad Neuenahr. FFC Heike Rheine and FC Bayern München shared the points in a 2-2 draw while Hamburg were held at home 3-3 by SG Essen-Schönebeck.
