Fleeting success in level tie

Arsenal LFC took a valuable draw back from Sweden in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Cup semi-final, but Djurgården/Älvsjö came from behind to keep the tie level.

Julie Fleeting, Arsenal's prolific Scottish striker, had her knee bandaged in the opening exchanges when she suffered an injury. But she recovered to put the visitors ahead at the Råsunda stadium on 23 minutes, lobbing the home goalkeeper after running on to a through-ball from Angela Banks. Fifteen minutes later Elin Ekblom equalised, pouncing on a defensive header and volleying in.

Fleeting departs
Despite Fleeting's eventual injury departure on 52 minutes and constant home pressure, Arsenal held on to draw, helped by same fine saves from Emma Byrne, in particular a double stop that denied first Kristin Bengtsson then Venus James late on.

Second leg
The teams meet again at Boreham Wood FC, just north of London, on Friday week, with the winners progressing to play SK Trondheims-Ørn or 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in the two-legged final - which none of the four tournament survivors have every previously reached.

'Tough game'
Djurgården/Älvsjö coach Mikael Söderman said: "It'll be a tough game in London but if we get our game going we can beat them."
