Brøndby IF effectively guaranteed their place in the UEFA Women's Cup semi-finals with an emphatic 9-0 victory at home to Gömrükçü Baku in the first leg of their quarter-final.
Early advantage
It only took the Danish champions only eleven minutes to establish a two-goal lead, with defenders Bettina Falk and Gitte Andersen both on target. Danish international Janni Lund Johansen made the half-time score 3-0, the midfield player finding the net four minutes past the half-hour.
Two for Johansen
The Azerbaijani side managed to keep the hosts at bay in the early exchanges in the second period, but fell further behind on the hour as another Danish international, Catrine Paaske, made it four, before Johansen scored her second of the game five minutes later.
Late goals
The home side further emphasised their superiority with four more goals in the closing stages, with striker Anna Jørgensen making the score 6-0 eleven minutes from time. Midfield player Julie Bukh Rydahl scored another two minutes later, Andersen got an eighth with three minutes to go and another defender, Mie Olsen, completed the victory in the final minute.
Second leg
The second leg of the quarter-final takes place at the Shafa stadium in Baku on 29 November.
