Frankfurt end Fulham challenge

Fulham LFC 1-4 1. FFC Frankfurt (agg: 2-7) The German champions left it late to complete an impressive win.

1. FFC Frankfurt left it late to complete a convincing 4-1 victory against Fulham LFC but their place in the last four was never in doubt after Birgit Prinz scored the vital first goal at the Kingfield stadium in Woking.

Profligate Prinz
The inaugural winners of the UEFA Women's Cup in 2002, Frankfurt won the first leg 3-1, leaving the English champions with a mountain to climb in front of their home supporters. Fulham started the game brightly, but it was Frankfurt who created the better chances with Prinz - the leading scorer as Germany won the FIFA Women's Cup last month - missing three fine openings.

Bar rattled
The striker was not to be denied in the 50th minute, though, as she put Frankfurt 4-1 ahead on aggregate, just 60 seconds after Fulham midfield player Rachel McArthur had rattled Marleen Wissink's crossbar. Fulham knew it was not going to be their day in the 52nd minute when McArthur missed a penalty.

Malmö next
However, Marianne Spacey's side did give themselves a glimmer of hope in the 80th minute when substitute Danni Bird scored the goal of the game. As Fulham then pushed forward in search of more goals, Pia Wunderlich (82) restored Frankfurt's advantage and Patrizia Barucha struck twice to complete a 7-2 aggregate triumph. Frankfurt will play Malmö FF in the semi-finals.
