Article body
Kolbotn IL defeated Malmö FF 1-0 at the Vallhall Fotballhall in Oslo but were eliminated 2-1 on aggregate from the UEFA Women's Cup following a quarter-final first-leg defeat in Sweden.
Keeper inspired
Two goals from Heidi Kackur gave Malmö an advantage to defend in Norway and they had to be at their best to keep out a determined Kolbotn side. Visiting goalkeeper Caroline Jönsson was the busiest player on the pitch, Sweden's No1 proving her class with a superb display. Soilveig Gulbrandsen was behind Kolbotn's best moves, dictating the play in a free role behind the strikers Christina Böe Hansen and Tanje Hansen.
Sensational stop
Gulbrandsen created the first chance of the match for Böe Hansen in the seventh minute, although the forward was denied by a sensational stop from Jönsson. When Hansen got clear her effort met the same fate. Kolbotn continued to dominate and in the 67th minute were finally rewarded for their endeavour. Substitute Natalia Galvez scored the goal from close range after her shot from a Silje Kopte da Fonseca cross was parried by Jönsson.
'Looking forward'
The goal galvanised Kolbotn and a hectic end to the game ensued. The Norwegians could not convert, though, and Malmö held on to advance to a semi-final meeting with 1. FFC Frankfurt. Sven Sjunnesson, standing in for Malmö coach Anders Johansson, who fell ill on Friday, said: "It was tough and very nervous for us. We switched from a 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 which gave us more stability. Now we're looking forward to playing Frankfurt."
