Holders Umeå find their range

Group 3 round-up: UEFA Women's Cup holders Umeå IK were in irresistible goalscoring form.

Defending UEFA Women's Cup holders Umeå IK were in irresistible form in Group 3 as they started their 2003/04 campaign with a perfect record and 23 goals in three games against tournament debutants.

Stunning win
The group hosts, Umeå produced a champions' performance in their opening game to beat Welsh title-holders Newtownabbey Strikers WFC 15-0. The third-highest winning margin in the competition's history saw eight different scorers, with eleven second-half goals - including five from Emma Lindqvist on 57, 66, 67, 68 and 89 minutes.

Slavia victory
In the other game, SK Slavia Praha beat Romanian side CFF Clujana 2-0, Gabriela Chlumecka's goals on 16 and 23 minutes proving sufficient for victory. Both first-game winners then set up a final-day decider with victories in their second matches. Umeå raced into a 5-0 lead 31 minutes into their match against Clujana, but only added one further goal for a 6-0 win.

Second-half goals
Meanwhile, Slavia secured a 3-0 victory against Newtownabbey courtesy of second-half goals from Andrea Budosova, Marcela Mazlova and Blanka Penickova.

Stugglers draw
Clujana's consolation was third place on goal difference as they and Newtownabbey drew 1-1. Florentina Spanu put the Romanians ahead on the quarter-hour, and although Helen McKenna equalised 23 minutes from the end, Newtownabbey could not produce a winner.

Final game
Umeå needed a draw against Slavia in their final game, and took heart from their decisive group game last year when they overcame Slavia's rivals AC Sparta Praha 6-1. However, it was not so easy this time as Umeå went ahead on 32 minutes through Linda Dalqvist, but could only relax when substitute Hanna Ljungberg scored on 74 minutes, ensuring Iva Mocová's late goal was only a consolation in a 2-1 scoreline.
