Denmark's Fortuna Hjørring stormed into the final of the UEFA Women's Cup after a stunning 5-1 win at English side Arsenal LFC took them through 8-2 on aggregate to a meeting with Sweden's Umeå IK.
Early goal
Arsenal had strong hopes of turning round the tie at Barnet FC's Underhill stadium despite a 3-1 first-leg defeat in Denmark. However, Birgit Christensen took just six minutes to claim an away goal for tournament debutants Hjørring to leave the 2001/02 quarter-finalists needing three goals.
Bonde double
Angela Banks hit the post seven minutes before the break, but Arsenal were two goals behind - and requiring five - after Christina Bonde converted a 47th-minute penalty following an Yvonne Tracy handball. Bonde then put the match out of Arsenal's reach just after the hour with a long-range effort.
Substitute seals win
Two minutes later, Hjørring's Australian midfield player Sharon Black claimed the fourth after getting behind the Arsenal defence and shooting in from 12 metres. Banks scored a 67th-minute consolation, but in added time Hjørring substitute May Christensen rounded Arsenal goalkeeper Emma Byrne to complete their side's fine victory.
'We have come up short'
Arsenal manager Vic Akers who in recent weeks has seen his side pipped in the league, FA Cup and League Cup, said: "We have given it our best shot in every competition, but unfortunately we have come up short in all of them and that is a major disappointment."
Two legs
The Danish champions will take on their Swedish counterparts in the final to be played over two legs in June.
