Holders fall to cool Umeå

1. FFC Frankfurt 1-1 Umeå IK (Agg: 2-2; Umeå win 8-7 on penalties) Hanna Marklund scored the decisive spot-kick.

UEFA Women's Cup holders 1. FFC Frankfurt were eliminated on penalties at the hands of Umeå IK in a thrilling semi-final second-leg encounter.

Lingor rescue
A last-minute Renate Lingor goal had rescued the home side, salvaging a 1-1 draw and forcing extra-time. After a goalless half-hour, though, the Swedish side held their nerve to win 8-7 on spot-kicks and proceed to the final.

Positive display
Umeå were thouregarded as underdogs after only recording a 1-1 draw in their home leg, but a positive display brought them a first-half goal in Frankfurt, Emma Lindqvist heading in a corner on the half-hour mark. But with the Swedes on the brink of victory, Lingor beat Umeå's Sofia Lundgren to a loose ball and grabbed a last-gasp equaliser - taking the score to 2-2 on aggregate.

Marklund heroics
Extra time failed to produce a winning goal and penalties were required. With the scores locked at 7-7, Frankfurt missed and allowed Hanna Marklund to step up and put Umeå through to play a two-legged final against Fortuna Hjørring, the Danish champions, in June.
