Kapstad seals Umeå comeback

Therese Kapstad scored the winner as Umeå IK came from behind to beat HJK Helsinki 2-1.

Umeå IK came from behind to beat HJK Helsinki 2-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Cup semi-final at the Sandakerns IP stadium today.

HJK in front
HJK started brightly and eventually took the lead after 32 minutes, when Laura Kalmari scored with an unstoppable eight-metre volley to stun the home crowd. HJK dominated the remainder of the half, leaving Umeå limited to sporadic counterattacks.

Stunning winner
Umeå were in more confident mood after the interval and equalised six minutes into the second period. Hanna Ljungberg was on hand to power a header in from a flighted free-kick and bring the hosts back into the match. Umeå made home advantage count with 19 minutes remaining, as Therese Kapstad scored with a fierce 18-metre volley that gave the HJK goalkeeper no chance.

Confident mood
Despite the visitors' best efforts, the scoreline remained unchanged at the final whistle and Umeå will be confident of securing a place in the final when they travel to Finland for the second leg in two weeks' time.
